Our Next Project: Giving Retired Climbing Rope a New Life!
Share
Hey Stoked Pup Pack! We are excited to announce that we are embarking on a new project of making dog collars and leashes out of retired climbing rope. We are teaming up with local climbing gyms to give old ropes a second life as unique, durable gear for your pup. Let’s dive into why we’re doing it and how you can get involved!
Every year, thousands of climbing ropes end up in the trash once they’ve been "retired" from use. These ropes are built to handle peak loads and the wear of climbing on big mountains, so they're made of synthetic materials like nylon. These synthetic materials don’t break down easily in landfills, breaking apart into microplastics that end up in our soil and oceans. Sunlight can also break down the rope into harmful chemicals that can easily lead to wildlife ingesting the plastic microfibers. With thousands of ropes retiring every year, it adds up to a big environmental issue.
But we think there’s a better way! These ropes may not be safe for climbing anymore, but they’re still incredibly strong. We’re in the process of gathering old ropes and working on designs to turn them into rad collars and leashes for adventure-ready dogs. Your pup could wear gear with a backstory and reduce landfill waste at the same time!
If this sounds like a mission you’re into, here’s how you can help us bring these upcycled products to life:
- Got an old climbing rope? Don’t let it gather dust in your closet—send it our way! We’d be thrilled to give it a new purpose. You can contact us here.
- Shop our current collars to support this project. Every purchase helps us fund the development of these new, upcycled designs, so we can get them into your hands (and onto your pups!) faster.
We’re stoked to work on this next chapter for Stoked Pup and can’t wait to share more updates with you. Thanks for being part of this journey to make dog gear that’s good for your dog and the planet. Let’s make a difference together, one collar at a time!
Stay tuned—and if you’ve got any ropes or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!
